It can carry 75 passengers per trip and it starts after every 30 minutes. To reach at the peak of Sugar Loaf Mountain which is at the height of 396 meters, cable car carry passengers in two stages – In first stage tourists reach at Urca Hill which is 220 meters high above the sea level. From there one can have the spectacular view of the Niteror Bridge, Corcovado Mountain and Guanabara Bay. One can buy souvenirs and snacks in between the waiting for the next ride. The second cable car from the Urca hills takes tourist at the peak which is another 396 meter high. The Corcovado hills 710-metre granite peak is located just west of the city center and it is known for the 38-metre statue of Jesus. It attracts approximately 300,000 visitors per year. Maracana Stadium is one of the important landmarks as it gives the sense of national obsession, it is one of the highest capacity football venues and can accommodate nearly 200,000 people at a time but due to security measures the seating capacity has been reduced to 80,000 spectators at a time. There is another tourist attraction called Janeiro Botanical Garden or Jardim Botanico having more than 8,000 species of plants and garden also includes a number of monuments, fountains and a pond filled with water and other attractions includes Selaron Steps, Santa Teresa and much more.
Best Time to Visit
December and March, when the weather is warm and sunny enough to hit the beaches, is the best time to see the Rio because the most spectacular events like Reveillon and carnival – take place during summer, from December to March. Getting the affordable hotel during festive season is getting little bit difficult because the price gets inflated during these months.
