Entebbe is the endearing old capital that has been the same since last 50 years. You may find it a little dustier as compared to the clean American cities, the buildings are lightly coated in the flakes of rugged ochre that you will recognize all over the country. This is the place where you will be spending your first night in Africa. If reaching in the early afternoon, you will have a chance to relax your feet and explore the city and local cuisines in the evening. You can also take a walk along the Lake Victoria while exploring the old-world buildings of Entebbe.
You will get a direct flight from Entebbe to Bwindi and it would be of 30 mins drive from one of the trekking trailheads. Reaching Bwindi in the early afternoon, you will have an opportunity to explore the local villages before exploring the wildlife. The villages have retained a tradition that stretches back for centuries. Most of the lodges in Bwindi are perched above the forest with uninterrupted vistas onto a canopy that is commonly consumed by swirling mist. So, if you are arriving in time for lunch, you get a chance to trek in the surroundings at a leisurely pace.
The gorillas that you will spot in the forests of Bwindi are known to be better than others. And it is because of the large troops in which they are often found. You will hardly see any gorilla walking separately from its troop. These are the primates that helped to give the country fame and to place it number one in Lonely Planet’s list of destinations for 2012. They were visited by eight trekkers a day for a few years before authorities sought to habituate other gorilla troops. From a distance of just 8 meters, you can gaze at the troop to the fullest. The experience of watching such troops is classic and unforgettable. This is why gorilla trekking of Uganda is known to give the best experience to its travelers than others.
Drive north through Uganda’s most popular national park, Ishasha Sector. The density of wildlife in Ishahsa is not too high but you will get to see some near the waterholes. The main attraction of this place is the tree-climbing lions that are hard to spot. Something moves, and your eyes follow. You sense the lion is there, but you cannot see it. You see a tail flickering and then the eyes, and then the complete lion ready to chase its prey. The moment is spectacular and sure to give the goosebumps. End your day in one of the luxurious lodges of this place while enjoying the delectable meals with amazing drinks.
After spending 5 days in the land of Uganda, it’s time to take a leave from this incredible place. Have a farewell lunch and departure to the international airport of Entebbe.
