History Of MSC Cruise Line

MSC Cruises, or Mediterranean Shipping Company Cruises, traces its origins back to the giant Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), founded in 1970 by Gianluigi Aponte. Initially focused on container shipping, MSC diversified into the cruise industry in 1987 by purchasing the liner Monterey, marking the beginning of MSC Cruises. The early 2000s marked a significant turning point for MSC Cruises as the company commissioned new, purpose-built ships. In 2003, the MSC Lirica became the first new-build ship to join the fleet, followed by the MSC Opera, MSC Armonia, and MSC Sinfonia.  The launch of the MSC Musica in 2006 signaled the start of a new era for the company, characterized by more extensive and more luxurious ships.
