You will be landing in Paro from the Druk Air flight! This flight is one of the most fascinating ones in comparison to many other mountain flights. You will get a mesmerizing experience, whether you are flying over the foothills or are flying through the Himalayan range. At the airport, you will be meeting your personal guide and he will take you to the capital city of the country, Thimphu. And, this is the day to relax and settle down in your luxurious hotel room.
Your first spot will be the mesmerizing medieval monastery, Trashi Chhoe Dzong, that is on the way. This medieval fortress is the home to most Government offices. Apart from that, this monastery is also Chief Abbot, Je Khenpo summer residence. After this, there’s the National Library which has a wide collection of Buddhist manuscript and texts. Thereafter, you can move towards the Arts & Crafts School, which is famously known for its thangka paintings. It’s great to see here students working to produce wonderful designs on clothes. And, then there’s the Handicrafts Emporium that has a vast collection of crafted and handwoven products. After that, you can move towards Memorial Chorten, which is a stupa built in the remembrance of the Third King of Bhutan.
The travel distance between Thimphu to Punakha is 75 km, and it takes around three hours to travel to Punakha. After you are done with breakfast and everything, just start your drive from Thimphu to Punakha. On your way, you can stop by the Dochula pass for a short time so as to enjoy the perfect panorama here. And, you will admire the main wall, the chortel, and the prayer flags. From the pass, you can also take a view of the Jejegangphugang peak, Masagang peak, Kangphugang peak, and others. After this, you will be heading towards Punakha Dzong, which is the administrative and religious center of the place. Today it has completely been restored, which was once completely destroyed by earthquake and fire.

On the way, there’s this Simtokha Dzong, which is the most ancient fortresses that were built in the year 1627. It has now been transformed into the School for religious studies. Then in the afternoon, you can move towards, Ta Dzong, which is the National Museum of the Kingdom. Though earlier it was built as the watchtower, after 1967, it has been transformed as the National Museum of the country. Then there’s this Rinpung Dzong, built during 1646, left to be visited.
