The Museum of History offers the history of Motril in various ways, with numerous interesting artifacts and documents relating to the city. Set in the attractive “Casa Garces” in the center of town, the museum gives visitors some new insight into Motril, from its historic past to the present day.
The Parque de las Provincias is located in the east of the city and is a large green space, perfect for relaxation and recreation. There are eight distinct areas in the park, representing the eight provinces of Andalusia. With its opportunities for pleasant walks through the trees and many attractive local species and shrubs along the way, this is an excellent place to spend a day.
Casa Condesa Torre-Isabel was originally built in the 17th century and was modified in the late 19th century. The building now hosts the Municipal Area of Culture and Heritage in the city of Motril. The interior is beautifully decorated with various elements from the past and there is an exhibition of paintings on display by various artists from Motril.
There are many beautiful beaches in Motril and its surrounding area, including Calahonda Beach, just a short drive from the city. The sandy beach and its crystal clear water provide an ideal location for fishing and water sports. Next, to the Port of Motril (mentioned below), Playa Poniente is the closest beach to the city center and is popular with families, offering many open-air activities and excellent facilities. Granada Beach is a peaceful stretch of sand set against the green of the Los Moriscos Golf Course. The beach offers award-winning facilities and due to the prevailing winds in the area, is the ideal location for windsurfing, kite surfing, and paddleboarding.
Charca de Suarez is a beautiful stretch of wetland just outside the city of Motril. There are a variety of local bird species to be seen here, as well as species from other areas, including cormorants, herons, flamencos and Eurasian spoonbills in the winter months. During the rest of the year, this is a popular place for white wagtails, coots, mallards, and grebes. The 13-hectare wetland is nestled in the valley of the Guadalfeo River and is the largest wetland on the Costa Tropical. There are several lakes and beautiful flora in the park as well.
