Today, you’ll head outside of Madrid again to visit the grand, art-filled monastery at El Escorial, where almost all of Spain's monarchs have been buried. En route, you’ll make a brief halt at the Valle de los Caídos, or Valley of the Fallen, which is a civil war memorial commissioned by Francisco Franco. Later in the afternoon, you’ll explore Madrid on your own.
This morning, you’ll wave goodbye to Madrid and board a high-speed train bound for Barcelona, which is home to an impressive range of architecture designed by Antoni Gaudí. After check-in at your hotel, make your way out for a full day tour of Gaudí's many contributions to the Barcelona skyline.
