7 Best Places to Travel in Mexico in 2021

When I read the quote by Enrique Pena Nieto, “Mexico is a mosaic of different realities and beauties,” it drove me to see what it is like to be here. For me, traveling, exploring, and seeing beautiful places across the globe has been my first love. 

 

From time to time, I have been listening to stories, reading through several Mexico travel guides, and I was curious to know more about this place. And, it piqued my curiosity when I came to know about the story behind the song 'In Case You Didn't Know' and how it was written in Mexico on a songwriter's retreat.

Mexico is not just for songwriters to get inspired, and there’s something for everyone to fall in love with and draw inspiration from. When I was writing my first book, I spent around a month at this place— it is so amazing! There was something so galvanizing in every part of the air here. In my leisure time, when I was not working on my book, I would enjoy a multitude of exciting activities. I wanted to mention Playa del Carmen in this Mexico travel guide because I have personally experienced everything here. From taking a dip into a Cenote to exploring the Chichen Itza, trying Traditional Mayan Food, chilling out at Lido’s Beach Club, and taking a day trip Xpu Ha— it’s like everything became a part of the inspiration for completing my manuscript. 

 

Let me tell you— Playa del Carmen is a quintessential beach destination in Mexico, which brings you an opportunity to indulge in the magic, unwind, and relax. It’s where you would forget about all the sadness of life. At Playa, there are plenty of timeless all-inclusive resorts functioning all through the city. Whether you want to sip a cuppa at a chic café or indulge in a lively bar— it’s the right place.

2. Mexico City

 

 

According to the UN, Mexico city is the seventh most populated city on the planet. That’s like, you are going to see a big part of the earth. With a population of over 21 million, spread in an area of about 573 square miles, it won’t be easy for you to explore it all within a day or two. And that is why in most of my Mexico travel guides, I suggest travelers spend at least a week (that is also not enough, but you can manage if you are smart). 

 

I’ll help you picture the city— it’s a versatile part of Mexico, which is almost always packed with visitors & locals. It is always to start your trip by exploring this beautiful neighborhood and the capital city. It’s like you know everything about the country if you have explored Mexico city. And, there are too many things to see and do in Mexico that even a week, or maybe a month, would not be enough. From the city’s gastronomy to its famous museums, the modern architecture, skyscrapers, and dazzling shopping malls— there’s no dearth of good things here for all types of travelers.

3. Puerto Vallarta 

 

I was in Puerto Vallarta— and with so much beauty, I was overwhelmed. When I realized why, over the years, it had become one of the fascinating travel destinations in the US. With so many world-class resorts, exciting nightlife, and stunning beaches & resorts— there’s no shortage of things to do in Puerto Vallarta. 

 

The best thing about Puerto Vallarta is its excellent all-inclusive resorts, a port city for Mexican cruises and spring breakers. People often underestimate the beauty of the place— honestly, I was not expecting so much, having visited Mexico City & Playa del Carmen. But, honestly, the moment I stepped in here— I fell in love with its natural beauty, the fascinating culture, and the food. It is where I got to know how the old-world charm blends beautifully with the modern-day beauty in Mexico!

4. Guadalajara, Jalisco

 

 

I have seen Guadalajara as one of those places in Mexico, which travelers often overlook. But I have explored the inside out, and I was so excited to share my story with you. So, be it the cuisine, the nightlife, the plethora of cultural sights— I have enjoyed everything here on my Mexico vacation. It’s like I was never free— at one moment, I was exploring monuments, the other feasting on Tortas Ahogadas, visiting the Government palace, and then listening to the Live Mariachi Bands was like never-ending.

 

While Guadalajara often gets overshadowed by vibrant Mexico city— it’s nothing less a destination stopping by and exploring. And, it’s excellent, you can explore a lot of things in just a day trip. Guadalajara is one of the most beautiful beaches & coastal towns in Jalisco. It has some of the best views to relish; we'll talk about—  in our following Mexico travel guides.

5. San Miguel de Allende

 

 

Jesse Ventura said, “My attitude when I'm in Mexico is I wake up in the morning with nothing to do, and I go to bed half done. I don't wear a watch. When I live down there, I do nothing according to time. I eat when I'm hungry and go to sleep when I'm tired.” it’s like you feel so relaxed, all away from the everyday chirpings! 

 

San Miguel de Allende is one of those places in Mexico, which is like you are found to fall in love every time you are here. In the central highlands of Mexico, San Miguel de Allende is popularly known for its artistic scenes, rich gastronomy, baroque architecture, and various festivals. Today, it boasts many luxury boutique hotels and flamboyant shopping places— unlike when the city was most popularly known among budget travelers and backpackers. 6. Los Cabos

 

 

At California Sur’s southern tip, Los Cabos is where the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez meet. Two of the most popular cities in Los Cabos are San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The other day, I talked to one of my friends, who is also an avid traveler— he told me that Cabos is their favorite holiday destination, and they travel to this place over twice a year. I was like, ok, and why so— but when I went to Los Cabos on a day trip while I was on a month-long workation to complete my book. 

 

Los Cabos truly offers so much for travelers to do and see— sailing, sport fishing, golfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, kayaking, and much more. And, if you are traveling to Los Cabos from November to April, you would get an opportunity to spot whale pods on the beaches. Cabo Pulmo National Park is where you would see coral reefs & endangered sea turtles.

7. Tulum

 

 

This tropical paradise will keep you hooked to it for longer than you might have planned. I am overwhelmed with how to wrap up its beauty just within a few words. Tulum is a world-famous beach town that boasts countless cenotes and gorgeous beaches. And, there’s undoubtedly so much to see and do in Tulum— it’s worth spending a few days here and mainly if you are a first-timer. 

 

You can’t miss the mystical turquoise water and exploration of the sugar sand beaches. Be it exploring the jungles, taking a dip into the cenotes, or hanging out at Laguna Kaan Luum, every single experience is incredible. Tulum is another place I never miss a mention of in my Mexico travel guides.
